Remarks

The original plan was flying to General Fox Airfield (WJF) via Salinas (SNS) and Paso Robles (PRB). We, however, Salinas looked overcast when we passed Holy City at 5,000 feet. We decided to take the central valley path along Hwy 5.

The central valley was hazy but had no clouds. We made good time up to Bakersfield, then we saw a lot of clouds on the other side of the mountains towards Los Angeles. We got the Rancho Murieta RCO frequency from Bakersfield Approach and contacted them. They said sky was clear but wind was gusting to 30knts at WJF. We decided to divert to Bakersfield Muni (L45).

There was no restaurant at L45. Bruce knew there is a nice restaurant at Harris Ranch (3O8). Actually, 3O8 is right next to the restaurant run by the ranch. The restaurant serves fresh beef slaughtered at the ranch.

We took off Harris Ranch after late lunch. Lemoore Approach handed us over to Oakland Center (128.7), but they could not obtain our transponder signal. We were asked to contact Nocal Approach (120.1), but in vain. Nocal asked us to contact Oakland Center 120.45, but in vain. In the mean time we passed San Luis Reservoir and we had Holister airport (3O7) in sight. At that time, we were asked to contact Nocal (120.1), again and finally we got flight following to PAO.
